Build a House Upgrade Priority
A practical spending order for carry, capacity, tools, and shop purchases.
When cash starts rolling in from placing bricks, Build a House asks a simple question with messy answers: what do you buy next? This upgrade priority guide gives a default order by category, not invented item names or fake prices.
The 60-second decision test
Ask, in order:
- Do I end trips with empty hands almost immediately? → Capacity
- Is most of my time walking between source and house? → Carry speed
- Does collecting or placing feel mechanically awkward even when stocked? → Tools
- Is everything fine but comfort is missing? → Shop QoL purchases
If you cannot answer, run two more cycles with zero spending, then ask again. Data beats vibes. How to place bricks faster helps you feel the bottleneck.

Default priority ladder
1) Capacity (usually first)
Empty walks are silent time loss. More bricks per trip often beats tiny speed bumps—especially early. After buying capacity, immediately test a full cycle before opening the shop again.
2) Carry speed (usually second)
Once trips are full, shorten them. Speed upgrades shine when the path is the clock. If you bought speed while still half-empty, you may have spent early—correct next cash into capacity.
3) Tools (situational third)
Tools matter when the hands-on action is the limiter. See Tools upgrades and the Shop guide. If tools do not change your next cycle timer, revert to capacity/speed.
4) Misc shop buys (last among power options)
Cosmetics or minor QoL can wait until the house is progressing smoothly toward completion.
Early vs mid vs late mindset
- Early: follow Early-game upgrades—avoid spreading cash across every category.
- Mid: rebalance if your plot path or habits changed.
- Late: buy only what shortens remaining completion work; vanity can wait until after finish.

Anti-patterns
- Buying every available upgrade “one level each”
- Shopping every time you earn a small cash tick
- Waiting for unverified codes instead of spending
- Trusting risky automations (Scripts)
Worked example (no fake numbers)
You notice you walk back with a tiny stack every time → capacity category.
Next session, stacks are full but walks feel long → carry speed category.
Later, gathering feels slow despite full, fast trips → tools category.
That sequence is the priority ladder in practice.
Use the Carry planner tables to jot which category you will hit next session.
Re-evaluate after patches
Balance changes can shuffle which category feels strongest. After reading Updates, run two no-spend cycles before you trust yesterday’s ladder. The decision test at the top of this page still works even when numbers move—because it is grounded in symptoms, not rumor spreadsheets.
If you are competing on leaderboards, priority mistakes hurt more: a wrong shop spree can stall a completion push that How to complete your house would otherwise finish.

Priority is a hypothesis you test with the next brick cycle—not a dogma carved into the plot.
Priority stays categorical on purpose
Exact names and prices go stale. Categories do not. After the 2026-08-05 update window, re-run the bottleneck test before trusting any old shopping memory. Cross-check with August 2026 status, Cash & economy, and Mid-game upgrades when the house already has shape.
One-line priority reminder
Empty hands → capacity. Long walks → carry. Awkward actions → tools. Comfort only after those feel fine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Build a House on Roblox.
Should I always buy capacity first?
Usually yes if trips empty too fast. If walks dominate even with full loads, prioritize carry speed instead.
When do tools outrank carry upgrades?
When collecting or placing feels limited even with solid capacity and speed. See [Tools upgrades](/tier-list/tools/).
How often should I open the upgrade menu?
After meaningful cash spikes or failed cycles—not every brick. Batch spends, then test.
Are upgrade prices listed here?
No. Prices can change and may be unclear publicly—we stay categorical on purpose.
